Boosterthon

The Boosterthon made it's way to Celina for the first time this year.  The kids were both really excited to participate and get donations for their schools.  For two weeks prior to race day, they would both come home every day talking about Dan the man and all the goodies they could earn for their pledges.

On the day of the Boosterthon 2 1/16th of a mile tracks were set up for the kids to run around while listening to music.  When it was all said and done Christian ran 3 miles and Carson ran 2 miles.  Not too shabby.

Remembering 9/11

Ok, I have to backtrack a bit as I forgot I had taken these pictures until I downloaded them to my computer today.  This past September 11th marked the 10 year anniversary of the most violent attacks on American soil.  I, just like every other American, remember exactly where I was and what I was doing that morning.  10 years ago on September 10th, Chad and I had a kitchen fire.  I was frying dove and a spark from the stove jumped in the skillet and it burst into flames.  Talk about frightening. Later that night we went down to Sonia's house to spend the night.  I remember waking up very early the next morning to call my boss and let him know I would not be making it in to work that day.  I hung up the phone and sat down on her couch to watch the Today show when they broke in with the horrifying news.  Then, with my own eyes, I watched the second plane hit the second tower and it was immediately evident that this was a terrible attack on our country.

On the 10th anniversary, I woke up at 7:00 am to watch all of the coverage on Good Morning America.    I could not peel myself away from the t.v for three hours, it was heart wrenching to see the pictures of people jumping to their death, to see the cloud of smoke chasing people down the street, to see the stories of all the children that lost a parent that day but awe inspiring to see the incredible memorial and tribute that was built.

On the Friday before September 11th I pulled in to the driveway of Carson's school to see it lined with hundreds of little flags.  Grandma had spent the night and was in the car with me that morning as we took the boys to school.  To see the flags flying from one end of the school to the other made an incredible impact on me that day.  It was impressive.  That afternoon the entire school went outside for a small ceremony where at the end each student released a balloon into the sky.  To see these kids pay tribute to something that happened well before any of them were born was amazing.

Christian's school also took time to remember 9/11 by the students forming a circle around the track and having a moment of silence.  I am so proud of our schools!

Here are a few patriotic pics of the boys Sunday morning as we were leaving for church.

"Going to homecoming"

I picked Christian up from school today and I don't think he got the car door closed all the way before he belted out that two girls wanted to go to homecoming with him.  Startled, I turned around to find him grinning from ear to ear.  Of course I had to try and pry as much information out of him as possible.  Last week a few of the moms were talking about how some of their 4th and 5th grade daughters had been asked to go to homecoming by different boys.  In the meantime, Christian had never uttered a word about it and I was surely not going to bring it up.  They are all growing up so fast (yes, I said it again) and it is shocking to hear all of these kiddos talking about stuff like this.  But now today, the very day before homecoming, he tells me he has the difficult task of picking which girl he is actually going to go to homecoming with.

Time to spill the beans!

Apparently, he was sitting at a table with Brock, Justin and Cason today and they got to talking about homecoming.  Kids were talking about who they were "going to homecoming" with and the boys decided that they needed to ask a girl to homecoming too.  Christian said that Brock had asked C, Kason had asked M, I forgot who Justin asked and Christian asked M.  (I feel bad saying their names, so you just get the girls initials). Well of course I needed every detail like how did this happen, where were you and what did you say exactly.

Come to find out he was too embarrassed to ask M himself because she was sitting at a table with about 10 girls.  Instead he got his good friend Brock to go ask her for him.  From what he told me she thought about it, said no and then said maybe. Evidently he did not like that answer and a few minutes later he went and asked A himself if she would like to go to homecoming with him.  When he got to this point of the story he said "and she really wanted to go with me because she said yes and then did this" (picture him clasping his hands up by his heart, his head tilted to the side, and letting out a big smile with his eyes closed).  Priceless.  However, in their next class M passed him a note under his desk that said "fine".

"Mom" he said, "I didn't know that it was going to be this hard.  What should I do?  I don't want to hurt M's feelings but I don't want to hurt A's feelings either and she would be mad."  Well of course I had to ask him what it meant to go to homecoming with someone which to him was a ridiculous question since they had homecoming when I was a kid and I should know what it means since I went.

A little while later Chad came home and Christian told him all about the events of his day.  When he asked his dad what to do, Chad's fatherly advice was to sit one quarter with M, tell her you have to go to the bathroom, be gone a really long time and sit the next quarter with A on the other side of the stands.  Really?

I can't help but laugh and cringe at the same time.  I didn't want to hurt either of the little girls feelings and not get them a mum if they were now to expect one but at football practice we boy moms had a pow-wow and decided we would not be rushing to purchase any mums this late in the ball game.  Really they are only in 3rd grade.  I may have considered it with a little more notice and a chance to talk to the girl's mom.  But not now, not this year.  Oh, the things I have to look forward to!

Look at those lips

A couple weeks ago I took the boys to the dentist for their cleanings.  At the end of the visit the hygienist called me back to review their findings, brushing grades, etc.  Unfortunately we walked right past the check-out counter to the computer monitor that had Puff's x-rays up for me to see.  It did not take long for me to notice the cavities in his teeth, without them being pointed out.  The poor thing had 4, yes I said 4 cavities and one of those would need a crown.  (GASP) Talk about humiliating.  I believe this qualifies as #failing.  How could I have one child that to this day has not had a single cavity and a second child with a mouth full, not to mention needing his sealants!

We broke the treatment down into two visits.  He received the sealants and 2 cavities on one side on the first visit and then today we went in for the crown and filling on the other side.  Both visits to the dentist, I have been amazed at how quickly he has gotten through.  This morning about 50 minutes after we walked in to the office, we were checking out.  The dentist said he did great despite him begging me to go back to school the entire drive their.  We pulled in the parking lot and he said, "all my friends are probably at the CAFETERIA now".  I was not sure how this visit was going to go.

But to my surprise he was fine.......for the time being.  Before we left she told us to wait at least an hour before giving him something to eat so we decided instead of rushing to grab a quick bite and head back to school that we would go to Yai Yai and Aunt Tawnie's office to visit for a bit.  We hung around for about an hour and then Sonia, Carson and I left for lunch.

Fast forward about an hour and a half and it is now time to head north to pick Christian up from school.  We got in the car and made the 15 minute drive north.  As soon as we put the car in park, Carson jumped out of his seat, leaned over me and said, "my lip is big".  I casually turned to look and to my surprise I was greeted with this very sad face...

Talk about startled.  I immediately wondered if he was having an allergic reaction since he has had reactions to medicine before, but after a quick call to the dentist's office and further inspection of his lip, it was obvious that at some point while his lip and face were still numb, he had chewed on it.

I was told on the phone that it could swell up to the size of a baseball, last for several days and I just need to keep an eye on it.  When Christian got in the car, his sweet older brother didn't have much sympathy for him.  He immediately pulled his head back and asked what happened.  For the next few minutes he told Carson how embarrassing it will be when he goes back to school tomorrow.
Thanks brother.

Did I mention school pictures are tomorrow?  Lovely.

The Wild Wild West

Saturday afternoon after football games we loaded up the truck and made our way to the deer lease with the Kennemers.  Unfortunately when it came time to leave Jenny Kenny wasn't able to go because she couldn't find a sitter for Colt. :(  Saturday night we got in to Childress around 11 pm and found a Best Western to call it a night.  The boys had been asleep in the back so when Christian woke up and asked where we were and I answered the hotel, he looked around real quick and said "but this place is ugly".  I assured him it would be fine but when he found out there would be no room service, I think he seriously disagreed.

The next morning the boys were all beyond excited.  They could not wait to get to the deer lease.  We woke up and got ready to find the temperature a cool 65 degrees.  Funny thing is I asked Chad when it came time to pack if we needed long sleeves and he responded like I was crazy.  Needless to say, we made a trip to Walmart for a warm layer of clothing, snacks and deer corn.  We all had a great time exploring the wild, wild west in the new Jeep and Ranger.

Bobcats vs Van Alstyne

The 2nd game of season the boys beat Van Alstyne 40-0.  It was HOT outside but the boys played their heart out and got to have some fun.  The defense did not give up one first down.  It was a great effort by everyone.  Go Bobcats!

Thank you Grandma, Ta Ta, Grammy and David for coming out to Sanger to watch me play!

INTERCEPTION

First game of the Bobcats 3rd grade season and the boys beat Anna 14-0.  I was still without my good camera so I was unable to take pics like I normally would which was extremely disheartening considering Christian got his first interception and I had no way to document it.  It was an incredible play that luckily my friend Sherry captured with her camera and was able to send to me.  THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH!!!  We will never forget this game and the emotion it brought on.  As a mom in the stands it literally brought tears to my eyes! Here are the stills....

The catch unfortunately was missed due to her excitement but I will never forget watching him shuffle his feet back and make the catch.

What a way to start the season!!!
