Bunny Tails

So a week or so ago, I was in the middle of my morning routine which includes popping in on some of my favorite blogs for inspiration when I found this... eighteen25.  I immediately decided this was a project that I could do and when class easter parties came around this week I was super excited with the treats the boys would be taking.  Wednesday night, after a much deserved night out with the kids to see the movie Rio, I came home put the boys in bed and began my project while turning American Idol on in the background.  Here was my finished project!  They were so cute!!!

So as you can see I had them all counted and lined out for each class.  Thursday morning Chad was still home when I left to take Christian to school so I just left Carson in bed.  When I got home and opened the back door I found Carson with what appeared to be a giant marshmallow in his mouth holding his marshmallow gun.  Hmmm...I thought to myself, I used four bags of marshmallows with none left over, I did have one unopened bag left but it was high in the pantry and I doubt he could reach it.

(Time for a little detective work)

I walked over to the pantry and just as I thought there was an unopened bag of marshmallows.  Next I peeked into the shopping bag where I had put all of Carson's things to take to his Easter party that morning.  A dozen filled easter eggs?.....check.  10 bags of bunny tails?.....1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9.

(This was our conversation, all straight faced)

Me:  "Carson, where did you get that marshmallow"

Carson:  "Oh, I found it on the floor"  (REALLY)

Me: "You found it on the floor?  Are you sure you did not take one of these bags"?

Carson:  "No I didn't, it was on the floor"

Me:  "Carson you need to tell mommy the truth.  Where did you get that marshmallow?
(As he is taking a second marshmallow out of his marshmallow gun)

Carson:  "I found it in the refrigerator"

Me: "Carson, mommy put 10 bags of bunny tails in this bag for you to take to your class and now I only count 9 bags.   Where did the other bag go"?

Carson:  (crickets)

It was now time to find the evidence and catch him in his little white bunny tail.  I quickly searched each room in the house but to my surprise there was no empty bag.  I then went in to the bathroom and sat Carson up on the ledge of the tub (with Chad in earshot) where I let him know that it was not o.k to lie, God was watching him, mommy and daddy needed to be able to trust him and he needed to tell the truth so he would not get in trouble, but if he did not tell me the truth he would get in the worst trouble he has ever been in because it was not o.k to lie.       BINGO

Carson:  "O.K, (sniffle) I took the bag of bunny tails"

Me:  "Thank you for telling me the truth.....a little more lecturing on why we always tell the truth.  Where did you put the empty bag"?

Carson:  "I'll show you"

Finally, where was the evidence......
buried in the trash can!

Tball

Baseball season is underway.  Here are pics from Carson's tball game in Pilot Point on Thursday.  We were supposed to have a double header on Friday but didn't work out.

Elementary Fun Day

Last Friday was Fun Day (or as we used to call it Field Day) at Christian's school.  This event is led by an incredible group of volunteers that had the whole day covered.  It was flawless and I was happy to take my PTA hat off for the day and just be mom.

Here are some pics from the day.

Christian's favorite event the last two years has been to race his teacher down the big inflatable slide each year.  He talked about it all morning and was delighted to find out that he would be the first one to race Mr. Pasqua down the slide just like he did last year with Mrs. Freeman and the year before with Mrs. Covington.  Unfortunately I had my big lens on the camera today and I didn't get a good shot.

I think he was excited to score a goal!

Had to show Misti at the face painting station.

No words needed

It did not take much to convince Mr. P to get his face painted too

The day ended with all the kids cheering on their teachers in a hula hoop contest.  What great sports!

How can I have such a nice camera and my pictures turn out like this.  I don't understand!

Jump Rope for Heart

Wow!  It has been awhile since my last post.  Things have been a little hectic around here the last two weeks.  Baseball season is underway and we have been consumed with it!  First take in consideration that Chad is the Asst. Baseball Commissioner and we have had to organize teams, jersey sizes, sponsors, numbers, email schedules and other correspondence, plus we have had baseball practice 5 days a week between both boys (Chad coaching), Awanas on Wednesdays, WORK, PTA stuff, etc, has not left time for much else.   Luckily we have been able to spend a few fun evenings with friends, the boys have had sleep overs and been back and forth between friends homes and Christian went to two really fun birthday parties.

Saturday was Jump Rope for Heart.  Christian has participated in this event the past three years and really loves the opportunity to show off his skills while helping to make a difference in the life of someone who does not have as healthy a heart.  We spent over two hours in the school gym on Saturday watching Christian jump rope and play basketball to raise money for the American Heart Assocation.

Ready for the event to begin

They do a great job of making it fun for the kids by breaking it up by jump rope style and having little friendly competitions for prizes.  Christian was quite proud he left with 4 prizes.  Unfortunately the frog that's eye bulges out when you squeeze it did not last too long.  We had to throw it out the window on the way home because someone squeezed the bulging eye a little to hard and red liquid exploded all over my car...lovely.

This face says it all...

Lots of different ways to jump rope

Carson and Holt kept themselves entertained on the sidelines

Christian's P.E. Coach....Coach Howes

Christian and Brock

I guess this next event was capture the flag or flag basketball.  The boys had to dribble the basketball around the court and try to take the flags off other kids while hoping no one gets theirs in the process. As more and more students are taken out the boundaries get smaller and smaller. Here Jackson and Christian are using what we like to call....strategerey!

The last three standing

Christian and buddies after a fun afternoon!  Jackson was showing off his medal for top 2nd grade fundraiser.

The boys first games were scheduled for tonight but Carson's has already been rescheduled and I have a feeling after the storms last night and the way the wind is howling this morning that Christian's game will be cancelled too.  Looking forward to seeing the kids on the baseball diamond.  Stay tuned!

I don't want to be 100

Thursday night after we got home from a family dinner I sat down on the couch to catch up on this weeks American Idol.  Chad and Christian were in our room watching something and Carson would come in  every once in awhile with me and then head back to his room and play.  At one point he climbed up in my lap and we snuggled while watching Lee Dewyze perform on the results show.  Out of nowhere Carson looks up and me and asks something like, "do 100 year people die"?  I paused the tv and looked at his sweet, innocent face as I tried to clear up any worries he was having.  We went back and forth a few minutes and he just kept saying, "but I don't want to be 100" and then he rolled over, put his arms around my neck and started crying while distraughtly saying "I don't want to die" and then "I don't want to be an angel" over and over again.

Time to choke back the tears (rather unsuccessfully).  Where was this coming from? Was he thinking about Ross?  Have Christian and I ever had this talk, I don't think so.  I am not prepared for this conversation!

I instantly swooped him up and said he was not going to die and then calmly called out for Chad.  He heard Carson crying and ran in wondering what happened. We met in the kitchen, I briefly caught him up on our conversation and he reached out for Carson as he saw the tears roll down both our cheeks. He gave him a big hug, sat him up on the table and then sat down on a chair to be face to face with him.  Carson told Chad the same thing that he did not want to be 100 because people die when they are 100 and he did not want to die.  Chad sat there and told him ok he did not have to be 100, he was not going to die and he was only 5 years old, which was 95 years from 100 and that is more than Ettie or Queenie.  He had a long life in front of him and he did not need to worry about that now.  After a few more minutes and now just a boo boo lip and sniffles, Chad immediately lightened the mood, changed the subject and brought out a smile.

I wish I knew what was going on in that little mind of his?  I am sure this is a fear that most kids have, but WOW!   It is time to prepare myself for all the tough talks ahead.

Shea is 18

Shea Shea is a St. Patty Day baby and before we celebrated with the family last night she had a birthday party with her friends at a skating rink in Denton Wednesday night.  The boys were really excited about the opportunity to go skating for the very first time and as always I was looking forward to a little "old school" fun.  We had a roller skating party a couple years ago for Honey's birthday and it was the most fun ever so I couldn't wait to tie up the old rollerskates again!  It turned out the rink was a new hockey rink in Denton.  Carson and I got there a little early and helped transform it into a sea of orange and pink while Christian insisted on riding there with Sheaster.

The boys decided they were ready to put on skates so after getting them all fixed up I decided to keep my shoes on until they got a handle on things.  Kaden and Carson immediately "monkey walked" around once hanging on to the wall.  They looked so cute!

Christian decided he better hang on too until he became a little more sure of his footing.

Looking good!

Carson did not like being so far behind so he thought he would catch up

Getting back up from a fall

Getting braver....

Almost all the way around

Unfortunately Christian spent a LOT of time down here

Proud of himself

Notice the red face. He was sweating up a storm.

Grammy, Carson and I
(Christian could not believe that his Grammy got on roller skates and was good)

The Cake

The birthday girl!

By the end of the night, Christian was exhausted!  He had a lot of fun despite all the falls and bruised knees and can't wait to go rollerskating again!

Chad spent most of the evening by the smoker with Josh cooking up fajitas.  Here he made an appearance on the floor in his tennis shoes!

Happy Birthday Shea Shea!
